Should Harry keep his Mo after the challenge?

It’s Movember and Samies Girl is focused on men’s health. Harry Georges is donating his face to the cause by growing a moustache for the entire month of November and he needs your support.

Harry’s Mo has sparked conversations and generated some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male depression.

Why is Harry so passionate about men’s health?

1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime

This year 20,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed

1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime

We’re asking you to support Harry’s Movember campaign by making a donation by either:

Donating online at: http://www.movember.com/m/1228326 or

Writing a cheque payable to ‘Movember’, referencing my Registration ID: 1228326 and mailing it to: Movember, PO Box 60, East Melbourne, VIC, 8002

Thank you in advance for supporting Harry’s efforts to change the face of men’s health.

So what do you think of Harry’s Mo for Movember? Let us know – should Harry keep his Mo after the challenge?

Tourists visit Sabah because the rich variety of marine life including sharks. With over 42,000 divers visiting each year and spending $A60 million, it makes economic sense to protect the dive locations. More importantly though on an environmental level, over the past 25 years, some 80 per cent of the state’s sharks had disappeared and they could now be spotted at only four sites.

Traffic, an international network that monitors the trade in wildlife, said early this year that Malaysia is the world’s 10th biggest catcher of sharks according to Traffic, an international network that monitors the trade in wildlife, and worldwide up to 73 million sharks are killed every year, primarily for their fins, it said.

Imagine coastlines lined with plastic sand! This was what Tim Silverwood discovered when he visited one of ‘the world’s worst biological disasters’ – the North Pacific Gyre.

The gyre, often called The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is less like an island and more like a swirling soup of plastic, Mr Silverwood said.

The trash gathers where the ocean currents meet, and has a centre which is about twice the size of France and growing.

‘The nature of the plastic is that it doesn’t biodegrade, it photo-degrades and becomes this very brittle plastic.’

He said that although we might not see out waste, Hawaii – which has found itself in the middle of the gyre – does.

‘You go and find incredible amounts of foreign plastic matter washed up on shore and its certainly recognisable that it hasn’t come from Hawaii.

‘Increasingly, we are getting more concerned about what it might mean for us because these small particles are being consumed by all matter of life throughout the food chain, including the species that we eat for food.’

On these small particles are toxic chemicals and known carcinogens like the organic pollutant, PCB and the pesticide DDT, Mr Silverwood said.

‘We have this notion that we throw items way and they go away. Well away is unfortunately, in a lot of occasions, the ocean and the belly of innocent creatures.’

Click here to discover more about this international tragedy.

Each one of us can take a stand today by helping to clean up our waterways and beaches and to stop throwing harmful materials such as plastics into the sea.
